Music Marketing Blog Post #1

Hi and welcome back! Last week we were assigned a music marketing project. We were a assigned a genre of music with three music options and we have to create a brand, campaign, and music video for a brand new artist. We were given an option to choose between three different songs which we then had to forget about the original artist and create a new person for our artist who is considered the artist of this song.

For our groups music marketing project we were assigned Country as our genre of music. We decided to start off by creating a case study about country music in general by doing research on today's top country artist. It was very difficult for my group to find two country artist from the same recording label that have recently released music so that we can have accurate and up to date data. Once we had found  the two record labels Universal Music Group Nashville and Warner Records Nashville we were able to start our research. We choose to split up and research different artist so that we were able to get more done in a les amount of time. This is what our note chart looks like:

After we were done with our research we started to brainstorm some ideas for our artist based on what we had learned from our case study. We created what target audience they aimed for, what was our brand going to be, what persona was our artist going to take? We started a word document that held all of our ideas until we eventually decided on one. We put all of our information onto this word document that we are then transferring into an engaging canva presentation that will then become our proposal. The hardest part of our research was deciding on what persona and personality our artist was going to have. After coming up with a bunch of ideas we were finally able to decide on one. This is what our word document of our ideas looks like:

Next, we began working on how we were going to market our artist. We created a marketing campaign outline on a word document. The outline served as a timeline of when we were going to put out certain things. We have a pre-launch which is three months before the single is released. The pre-launch includes youtube videos, podcast appearances, website launch, hashtags, merch, and creating accounts on different social media platforms. Also in our outline, we have included how we were going to distribute our artists music. The hardest part about our marketing campaign was figuring out what platforms would be best to use to market our artist to their target audience, but once we figured that out everything was smooth sailing. Here is what our outline looks like:

Finally, We started to create a storyboard for our music video. At first we struggled to decide what type of music video we wanted to create. We didn't know if we wanted to a promotional music video to introduce our artist, or a storytelling music video to introduce our artists creativeness. We eventually decided on a storytelling music video. Then, we began planning each shot making sure they all were telling the story of two girls who were best friends that got into a huge fight, but during the fight one of the girls misses the her best friend and everything and everywhere reminds her of her best friend and all she wants to do is makeup with her. We made sure that our story board was filled with details so it made it easier to know what to film. Take a look at what our story board looks like:

Overall I think that we have made a lot of process and have been working very well together as a group. obviously we are going to have a few disagreements because we all enjoy different things and different styles. But overall everything has been going pretty smoothly
